Twelve Extraordinary Women: Eve

I have been open with the fact that I am struggling in submitting to my husband and fulfilling my role as a wife and mother. It is the hardest thing to do especially if you have a strong personality and you are used to being independent. Don't worry, we are not alone. In fact our first parents, Adam and Eve, struggled with the same problems.

Adam and Eve are a perfect couple. A role model if I must say, "Adam was created first, then Eve was made to fill a void in his existence." Eve in particular is made to perfection. She must have an unsurpassed beauty but more importantly, she met Adam's needs and satisfied him.

Eve's role as a wife is not merely serving Adam. She was his spiritual counterpart, intellectual coequal, and his perfect mate and companion. And because of her creation, God's plan for marriage was established --- one flesh principle. You are for your husband, he is for you, ONLY.

Adam and Eve was an illustration of how perfect a marriage should be. "It is not merely a physical union but a union of heart and soul as well." That deep.

Adam was designed to be a father, provider, protector, and leader. Eve, on the other hand, was designed to be a mother, comforter, nurturer, and helper.

All these roles changed when Adam and Eve met the serpent. All of a sudden their eyes were opened and saw how lustful this world is. Adam is supposed to take care of his wife but he let her be deceived and eventually plunged the entire human race to sin. "By one man's disobedience many were made sinners" (Romans 5:19).

"Before Adam sinned, his leadership was always perfectly wise, loving and tender. Before Eve sinned, her submission was the perfect model of meekness and modesty."

They forfeited the paradise of Eden and inherited a life full of pain.

Eve had desires to be dominant over Adam. While Adam reacts harshly to that. Everything became twisted.

The tension among homes today are all because of the curse the human race inherited from them. Some homes have a working mom and a house-husband. Others are being lead by single parents. It was indeed a life full of hardships.

I am pretty sure Eve didn't want all the pleasure that comes from obeying God to change especially when Cain, her son, crushed her heart by murdering Abel. But because God is a merciful God, he provided a solution --- Christ. "By one Man's obedience many will be made righteous" (Romans 5:19).

Even if we know that our human nature is to sin, we must fight it. I have realized that my worries about my own career is irrelevant. I chose to be a wife and a mother and that is what God wants me to be. A caring wife who irons her husband's clothes even when she's up all day doing chores. A loving mom who rush her kids to the hospital when they are sick, a mom who teaches her kid how to read and write.

So I won't question no more. I won't have second thoughts on putting aside my selfish ways because it isn't how God shaped me to be.
